It’s important to know that most chimney fires start long before you ever smell smoke.

Creosote buildup, blockages, and small cracks get worse with every fire you burn. Metal woodstove pipe can even be more prone to the flammable tar-like creosote buildup if the flue temperature is too cool, causing smoke to condense even faster than brick.
